The Scrimshaw Art

Scrimshaw is an early and unique American art form of the whaling industry in the late 1700s.

During the endless hours of waves, a whirlwind, bored with the cruelty and shallowness of his profession, began slowly drawing nautical sketches into any object he found in front of him, giving himself and his colleagues a beautiful image and a pleasant break. With travel and the passage of time this art has become popular in a short matter of time.

Today, each of us has the ability to equip himself with the necessary accessories and materials and to draw on his knife, which was then the most common “canvas”,  any design  that he wishes creating a special piece for his collection.
